Video: How He Loves

“How He Loves” – David Crowder Band

We’ve been playing this song in church a lot lately and it makes me cry every time. This video is a beautiful reminder of God’s intense, powerful love. It’s hard to believe that perfect, all-powerful God would love imperfect, weak, messy little me.

I really liked the quote from our pastor from the middle of the video:

“We’ve got this weird compartmentalization thing that happens where you don’t think that God sees all that you are, or that if He could have somehow known who you were going to be He wouldn’t have gone to the cross. God knew you were going to be messy; Christ knew you were going to be messy. God knows that you’re going to screw up often. He knows that you’re going to be drawn to things that are wicked. That’s what the cross is all about. The whole point of the cross is that you’re going to fail and you’re going to stumble and you’re going to feel dirty and you’re going to feel awkward. The whole point of the cross of Christ is that there’d be this mighty picture of His love and pursuit of you despite you. So, the cross is necessary because of you, but it’s also the picture we have of just how far God is willing to go because He loves you.

In this season of thankfulness, I’m thankful for grace. I’m thankful that it’s not my works that save me, because I could never be good enough for God. I’m thankful that God loves me in spite of me— nothing about me deserves His love, but He chooses to love me anyway.

We are His portion and He is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If His grace is an ocean we’re all sinking
So heaven meets earth like an unforseen kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets
When I think about the way
He loves us
